Interesting question, I had to really think about that one. Nope, I can't say that there is one thing that I have kept from being raised by dubs, I rejected the whole mindset lock stock and two smoking barrels.

JW says Jehovah's People aren't Brainwashed
by Honesty inwell from what i understand a cult is something that expects you to follow some man.
you must give up your individual thought processes and just go with what you are told to think.
this way you are released from individual responsibility.

Let's see, first you are told you are under satan's control, a sinner, with no hope for the future. Hmm, sounds like the tearing down phase to me.
Then you see the "truth" bit by bit and are praised for your maturity and insight. Hmm, sounds like the building up phase to me.
Then you find you are in an elite corps of faithful witnesses who alone have God's blessing. Hmm, sounds like you feel better than everyone else thanks to the WBTS.
Drop and give me twenty maggot!

The number 40 - Is there a connection? Flood, Sinai, Wilderness, Jesus
by truthseeker ini was just thinking today, that the number 40 also seems to hold significance in the bible.
i did some research and found this site.. .
maybe leolaia, narkissos or others can help here and explain if there was any symbolic value that the number 40 held.

When I was an undergrad I took a class called, "The Bible as Literature". The class was taught by a Jesuit Priest. He said that the number 40 was a plug number when the writer didn't know how long it actually was and that was a popular convention at the time. So, anytime there was an extended period and the writer didn't know how long it was, they just said 40 days.

I just love those goofy little catch phrases and buzzwords they come up with, Keep Your Eye Simple indeed, should have called it Keep Your Mind Simple, would have at least been closer to the truth.

I've got to say I agree with many here, why even place the things? Why not just fudge your time slip to keep them off of you? You never know, one of those rags might actually ring the cherries with someone and we all know what can happen after that.

Speed traps in your area

i don't encourage anyone to drive over the speed limit, but i find this site interesting, and could help you avoid a speeding ticket.

There was an interesting story locally. It seems a private company was contracted to set up radar guns and cameras at many of the local school zones. If you tripped the gun the camera would photograph your license plate and you would get a ticket in the mail. Several thousand tickets were issued in the space of a month, many to police offices, lol. The city raised holy hell and the program was suspended even though the voters had complained (and rightly so) that speeding through school zones was epidemic. They are still wrangling over it in city council.

Parallels between WT and USSR leaders: Desperately seeking Pestroika!
by Check_Your_Premises inthis occured to me in the car today.. lenin - the true believing idealist who launched the revolution.
the dream was to throw off the shackles of oppression (this system of things) and create a new utopia of a worker's paradise (paradise earth).

Pretty slick stuff, I'm impressed. Rank and file dubs vs. Russian citizens, the defections, the seeing how life was on the otherside (the West) while the administration continued to them them we were the devil incarnate and they lived in a perfect society.
So, is Bethel the Berlin wall, are we going to be around to take that bad boy down?

Why do "Ultra Christian" people, sound so fake?
by free2beme innow before i offend everyone who labels themselves christian.

Interesting question. About half the time I think they are "fake", I'll just get the vibe that the whole production serves some end for them and I just roll my eyes the same way I do when I see a kid who works at McDonalds wearing a rolex watch.
The other half of the time I think they really believe in what they are doing and I'm just baffled becasue I just don't get it. I just don't understand that sort of devotion or super spirituality if you will.

Hello ..Im Mentalist
by mentalist inafter starting a thread yesterday and taking in the various responses i feel i should set the record straight on a couple of things.over the last couple of days aswell as here i have joined jwo and slippys too.im not a troll but im not a board virgin either.these three particular sites have been mentioned to me (not quite recommended)by an ex-witness, so i thought id have a look see for myself.
it feels like i know several characters already very well (having had indepth conversations about them)but im very suprised at the size of the community you have here.i was raised a witness but never baptised.family still all are and in fairness treat me very well as do members of my old congregation when i bump into them.i guess thats enough for now, cant be giving too much away this is the internet after all.
btw..at times i realise i am not the best speller in the world(i struggled all the way through school),but to those people who replied to my thread just to point that out..bite me!your no different than the the type of elder who completely missed the point of how hard it was being a young jw but still took great pleasure in telling you how sports socks were not appropriate attire for the meetings.sheesh.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your stay. Your story sounds very similar to mine, the best thing I ever did was not getting baptized, my family treats me decently as yours does. I really feel for those that are subject to shunning, that has to be terrible.
I think you'll find the ex-dub community to be larger than you ever suspected, I know I was shocked, and hopefully it will grow everyday.
